Frequently Asked Questions
Business owners & decisions makers are confronted with many difficult issues when reviewing their IT infrastructure & inventory.
Q: Why are we constantly having to
upgrade everything?
A: In our opinion, this is driven by two main factors:
Demand & Security.
Demand:- Businesses wish to work smarter with ever increasing
mobility.
Security:- Network devices, servers, workstations & software
applications need constant revision to keep security attacks at bay.
Q: Are Win95/98/ME computers OK to use
on a secure business network?
A: We do not advise this. These versions of Windows offer
little resistance to security attacks. Further, the contents
of hard disk are easily accessed across a network, affording little
privacy.
Q: Can different versions Windows
co-exist on the one network?
A: Yes, but not without reservation:--
WinNT4/2000/2003/2008 server operating systems &
WinNT4/2000/XPP/Vista workstation versions will all function
together on a network.
However, because the older versions are no longer supported by Microsoft, these become a maintenance & security risk to an entire network. Further, many 'smarts' in the later versions can not be fully implemented because relaxations have to be made for these systems to co-exist with the older technology.
